![]() TEN 3 develops ideas into implementation plans
Under Interreg IIC, TEN identified the areas with a great need for ecological restoration or recreation measures to enhance the water corridors and wetlands. The chosen Interreg III projects will need co-operation from the other TEN partners to achieve the best result. This will help to strengthen the knowledge, ensure better implementation and trigger further development. These project will gain much knowledge of the implementation projects. A. Creating an ecological corridor in a river system Project Vecht "Junne" (Nl): Comparing and researching variants especially in regards to safety and water catchment, draw up implementation plan in regards to water and nature, develop an interactive plan with public. B. Creating an ecological corridor in a transnational water system Project Brualer Schloot (Ge): Draw up implementation plans for the ecological corridor (Struktur pläne, Ausbauplanung) and Project Boelens-Tijdenskanaal (Nl): Draw up implementation plans for the ecological corridor with special attention to water recreation (boats). C. Creating an ecological corridor between two wetlands (wetland development) Project Muggebeet (Nl): Comparing and research three variants of ecological corridor, draw up implementation plan, draw up communication plan, integrated approach with regards to spacial planning, traffic planning and water management. Especially UK and Drenthe will put in a lot of experience and the experience gained by the implementation will contribute highly to the implementation plans developing. Exchange of knowledge on international, national and local level: Exchange of knowledge will be organized on an international level (seminars), between partners (partner meetings) and bilateral between the partners. To exchange knowledge and experiences across international, national and local levels there are two 'theme meetings' or conferences planned. These themes are directly connected to the main aspects, and the core projects. These theme meetings will have the following participants: the TEN partners, the participating project members from each project, local experts and ther people interested in the project, the local and regional authorities and politicians. The themes will be (draft titles): "Seeking for win-win strategies to realise ecological corridors, especially in regard to water quality, water framework and economic development." "Realisation of ecological corridors with participation of numerous governmental and non-governmental authorities on a local level." The partners will meet at least five times. Further bilateral meetings (two country-visits by example UK visiting Drenthe), field visits and expert meetings will be organized partly on the need of local partners, to encourage broader visions or to get practice experience. To realize a better contact on technical issues between local partners and international partners an experimental email-discussion group will be organized (TENdiscussions@Drenthe.nl). Other Interreg-projects on water issues will be asked to inform via this email address TEN on their new newsletters and reports and their download addresses and thus implement knowledge from outside TEN. Participating from outside TEN will be possible on a modest scale (Maximum participants + 150) Learning One of the problems partners often meet is the lack of knowledge in aspects of implementing ecological corridors in policy officers, water managers, planners and people involved in the realization. To fill this gap but also to broaden the vision to the international aspects of ecological corridors, a training course will be held. Main aspects will be: the present ecological knowledge, the different way of working in the countries, project planning, win-win situations, ecological corridors and water framework, cooperation between local partners, the role of land consolidation. The instructors will come from (inter)national, regional and local government, politics and partners involved with the realization. Different projects in the Netherlands and Germany will be visit to get feeling with the practice of small and large scaled ecological corridors. A lot of the experience gained in the implementation will be used in this course. TEN 3 will also ask some instructors from other Interreg projects to share their knowledge in this course. The proceedings will be gathered and published as a report. This report will be the basics for course development in future or elsewhere in the Northsea region. Learning partner : Due to political problems on a local level, the City of Bremen isn't able at the moment to work on a implementation plan. Nevertheless Bremen would like to participate as a learning partner in TEN 3. Bremen is special interested in the implementation aspects (Drenthe, UK). TEN 3 Projects
